Amazon's newest e-reader brings writing capabilities to the Kindle. The Kindle Scribe isn't just made to replace traditional paper books. Instead, it wants you to do away with paper entirely. According to Amazon, it's "perfect for reading and writing, even in direct sunlight." Its 10.2-inch display gives you room to "take notes and [keep a] journal, and makes it easy to adjust font size and margin width for improved reading comfort."
The company promises the experience of writing on the Kindle Scribe feels like writing on paper. You can add notes to books, scribble on PDFs, and make notes in your own documents. What's missing is the option to write directly on the ebooks you buy from Kindle publishers. You can attach handwritten notes to a book, but you can't underline or write in the margins as you would with a physical book.
The Amazon Kindle Scribe can get up to 12 weeks with half an hour of reading daily. But you'll cut into that if you write for half an hour each day. According to Amazon, that should get you up to three weeks. The screen needs to refresh more often if you're writing, so you won't get that weeks of battery Amazon claims. The Amazon Kindle Scribe has a starting retail price of $429.99.
