Citizen has unveiled the new version of its CZ Smart smartwatches line. This new wearable comes with what the brand calls a built-in AI "self-care advisor." Citizen collaborated with IBM Watson Studio to develop its proprietary YouQ app. The app uses NASA technology to let you know when you're most alert or fatigued to "maximize daily potential." It reminds us of the Polar Ignite 3.
The YouQ app's use of IBM Watson's neural networks is the most intriguing concept on this smartwatch. It's meant to learn your "chronotype" (preferred timing of sleep and wake) over a seven- to 10-day period through processing sleep data and "alert scores."
It generates the latter from a custom-designed alert monitor test, a consumer version of NASA's PVT+ test made at the Ames Research Center Fatigue Countermeasures Laboratory. Citizen describes the tests as "brief, gamified, and can be taken daily to measure the wearer's alertness."
The data the YouQ app gathers helps it learn your unique rhythms and habits to recommend "Power Fixes" or actions you can take to reduce fatigue, improve alertness, and promote better habits. You can expect this to improve over time as the CZ Smart learns more about you.
This new tech is only available on this second-generation CZ Smart. It comes in 44mm sport and 41mm casual models, with mesh bracelets, silicone straps, and links. It has a 1.3-inch AMOLED display, Snapdragon Wear 4100+, 8GB of storage, and 24+ hours of battery life with "faster charging."
It comes pre-loaded with the YouQ app, Strava, Spotify, Amazon Alexa, and YouTube Music. The previous model was powered by Wear OS, but Citizen hasn't mentioned what the new CZ Smart runs on. It does support iPhone and Android devices. It'll start selling in March, with pricing revealed at a later date.
