Apple
The latest Apple Watch Series 9 and Apple Watch Ultra 2 have a killer feature: Double Tap. This simple yet powerful gesture is Apple’s answer to a common problem faced by smartwatch users—how to interact with the watch when your other hand is busy holding groceries, a dog leash, or a flashlight. Beyond its convenience, Double Tap serves as an accessibility feature. For individuals with limited arm or hand mobility, it provides an alternative way to control their watch. And the good news is it is now available.
Getting started
Before you can use Double Tap, follow these steps:
Update your devices
- Ensure your Apple Watch is up-to-date with at least watchOS 10.1 (released on October 25).
- Update your paired iPhone to at least iOS 17.1 (also released on the same day). You can do this in Settings > General > Software Update on your phone.
Install the update
- Charge your watch to at least 50 percent. Remember to keep your watch charging while updating for a smooth installation process!
- Open the Apple Watch app on your paired phone.
- Navigate to General > Software Update.
- Tap Install and wait for the update to complete.
Now you’re ready to enjoy the convenience of Double Tap on your Apple Watch!
