Apple has unveiled a new version of the 24-inch iMac at its “Scary Fast” event. The new iMac features the M3 chip, which is said to be twice as fast as the previous M1 chip that was launched more than two years ago.

What’s new with the M3 chip?

The M3 chip is a powerful processor that has an eight-core CPU and up to a 10-core GPU. It can support up to 24GB of RAM and 2TB of storage, making it a speedy and versatile all-in-one device. The M3 chip also enhances the performance of various productivity and creative apps. For example, Safari or Microsoft Excel can run up to 30 percent faster, while Adobe Photoshop can process photos up to two times faster. Additionally, the M3 chip enables up to 12 streams of 4K video.

What’s not changing with the iMac?

The design of the 24-inch iMac remains unchanged from the previous model. It still has a thin profile of 11.5mm, white bezels, and a prominent chin. It also comes in seven colours: green, yellow, orange, pink, purple, blue, and silver. The iMac still has a 1080p camera, speakers, mics, USB ports, and a 4.5K Retina display. The color-matched accessories, such as the keyboard, mouse, and trackpad, are also the same and connect with a Lightning cable. It does now support Wi-Fi 6E though for faster connectivity.

What’s more eco-friendly with the iMac?

One notable improvement that Apple has made with the new iMac is the use of more recycled materials. The stand is now made of 100 percent recycled aluminum. The iMac also uses recycled rare earth magnets, recycled tin soldering, and recycled gold plating in its circuit boards.

How much does the new iMac Cost?

The new 24-inch iMac with the M3 chip starts at $1,699 for the eight-core GPU model and $1,949 for the 10-core GPU model. You can preorder it today and expect it to ship on November 7.
