Garmin has announced the Descent G1 Solar – Ocean Edition, a new version of its Descent G1 dive computer that uses recycled ocean-bound plastics. The watch, which also exclusively features solar charging, is a multi-use smartwatch that can track various diving modes, fitness activities, and wellness metrics. It comes in a single Azure colorway with a dark lakeside case and an azure blue band.

The Descent G1 Solar – Ocean Edition is Garmin’s most sustainable smartwatch to date. It uses plastics that would otherwise end up in the ocean for its buttons, bezel, and housing. The source of these plastics is not specified by Garmin, but the company says it is committed to reducing its environmental impact. The watch still has a silicone strap and some other basic materials. The details of the sustainable materials used in the production of the device are not disclosed.

The Ocean Edition is designed for durability and adventure on land and sea. It has a 45mm reinforced polymer case, a scratch-resistant sapphire lens, and a clear monochrome display. The device has a 100-meter water rating and meets the U.S. military 810 standard for thermal, shock, and water resistance.

The device is powered by solar charging, which extends its battery life and reduces the need for frequent charging. It can last up to 25 hours in dive mode and 124 days in smartwatch mode.

The Descent G1 Solar – Ocean Edition is a rugged watch-style dive computer that offers the following features:
