Spotify joins many other companies using artificial intelligence for its service. The app beta tests its new DJ feature in Canada and the US for Premium users. With an AI-generated voice, the app can create a customized radio station built around your musical taste. It isn't too far off what it's doing now with algorithmically-generated playlists. But now, you'll hear a voice intro and commentary we've typically only gotten from the radio experience. If you aren't feeling the recommendations it offers, there's the DJ button you can switch to change up the tracks.

The Spotify DJ will use AI in two ways. First, it leverages OpenAI's (yes, the company behind ChatGPT AI) generative AI tech so its human editors can "scale their innate knowledge in ways never before possible." Another uses the tech from its Sonantic acquisition. It will bring you that AI DJ to narrate and commentate on your personalized station.

To create the voice model for the DJ, Spotify partnered with its own Head of Cultural Partnerships Xavier "X" Jernigan, who was one of the hosts of its first (and personalized) morning show, The Get Up. Spotify plans to iterate the feature so we may get more voices in the future. To learn how to access it, head over to this link.
