As the Star Wars celebration happens, we get to hear more about Disney and Lucasfilm's plans for the franchise. One of the latest updates includes three new films coming at an unspecified time. One of the new movies will have Daisy Ridley reprising her role as Rey. The movie will take place 15 years after the events of The Rise of Skywalker, which was the final film in the Skywalker saga and the most recent Star Wars movie and focuses on Rey forming a new Jedi Order. Academy Award winner Sharmeen Obaid-Chinoy (Ms. Marvel and Saving Face) will direct the film.
James Mangold (Logan and Indiana Jones and the Dial of Destiny) will helm a film that focuses on the origins of the Force and the Jedi. It'll be set 25,000 years before anything we've seen in the Star Wars universe.
And Dave Filoni will finally direct a live-action Star Wars film. He has been at the center of the franchise for many years with his work on the 2008 animated film Star Wars: The Clone Wars, and his involvment in the many Disney+ Star Wars shows, including The Mandalorian, The Book of Boba Fett, Ahsoka and Skeleton Crew. Unsurprisingly, the film he's directing will tie these stories together.
We don't have release dates for any of the movies, but Disney's current slate includes holiday 2025 and 2027 dates for untitled Star Wars films. Those might be the timelines for at least a couple of these movies.
