If you've ever looked at a mirror and said self-affirmation statements to it, you might be interested in this new product from Baracoda. The BMind smart mirror uses generative artificial intelligence to supposedly determine your mood so it can offer affirmations, visuals, and others to improve it. It uses AI and natural language processing to analyze the expressions, gestures, and tone of whoever is looking into the mirror. It'll then adapt to your mood and provide things like light therapy sessions, guided meditations, and self-affirmations. The goal is to improve your mood and better manage stress.
The technology works using the CareOS platform. It allows third-party providers to connect apps for the display within the mirror's interface. The BMind smart mirror comes with features like an omnidirectional microphone for voice detection, a 4K UHD camera, and Face ID for security.
Aside from offering mental health guidance, the BMind also has features like guided teeth brushing, skin analysis and coaching, bathroom water monitoring, and more.
It is important to point out that AI and mental health can be a tricky combination, in part because of the potential for bias in the underlying algorithms and privacy concerns. There have been instances when AI tools used in health care have discriminated against people based on their race and disability status, and chatbots have spread misinformation and harassed users. Hopefully, Baracoda has ensured that AI models and data are transparent, validated, and ethical.
Baracoda said the CareOS platform stores your health and personal data locally and will not share it with any party without your explicit request and consent.
If this is still something you're interested in getting, the BMind mirror will cost around US$500 to US$1,000 (around CA$674 to CA$1,347) when it comes out at the end of the year.
