Sugar Cubes introduces an innovative metal case that transforms the Unihertz Jelly Star smartphone into a dedicated gaming handheld. The compact case, compatible with the diminutive Android phone, provides a retro gaming console feel when the smartphone is slid in either vertically or horizontally.

RetroDodo reports two models in the works, accommodating different orientation preferences, and both offer a D-pad, joystick, and traditional gaming buttons.

The Jelly Star smartphone, known as the "world's smallest Android 13 smartphone," boasts impressive specs despite its size. With a three-inch display, MediaTek Helio G99 processor, 8GB of memory, 256GB of storage, and a 2,000 mAh battery, it can emulate games from platforms like Game Boy, Nintendo 64, PlayStation, and Dreamcast. Its Android OS also allows seamless compatibility with Android games.

Sugar Cubes plans multiple releases for the Jelly case this year, although specific pricing and release details remain undisclosed. But since it's just a case, expect it to come at a reasonable price. Of course, you must buy the US$210 (around CA$282) Jelly Star phone separately.
