If you read digital graphic novels and want an e-reader, you'd want to pay attention to Amazon's new Kindle. The Amazon Kindle Colorsoft is the brand's first full-colour e-ink tablet. It is launching in the US on October 30 for US$280 (around CA$387). Based on Amazon's site, it doesn't look like it's coming to Canada just yet.
But if you want to pick one up in the US, the Kindle ColorSoft comes with a 7-inch screen with up to eight weeks of battery life on a single, full charge. Its front light will automatically adjust to your surroundings and its high-contrast screen comes with built-in anti-glare to make it easier to read in different environments.
Amazon launched the Kindle Colorsoft as a "Signature Edition" device. It signifies that this type of e-reader offers upgrades over lower-priced variants. It has features like wireless charging, auto-adjusting front light, no ads, and 32GB of storage. They also have a metallic chassis, which the Metallic Black Colorsoft offers.
The Kindle Colorsoft has an IPX8 water resistance rating, allowing you to read in the bathtub or the pool. In lab tests, it can be immersed in 6.5 feet of fresh water for up to 60 minutes. However, don't attempt to use it in the ocean. It's only graded to last three minutes of immersion at less than 0.8 feet of depth.
Amazon isn't the only e-reader maker to offer devices with full-colour screens. Brands like Kobo, Boox, and reMarkable offer options for you as well.
