YouTube Shorts is rolling out some new features, including longer videos. The company's answer to TikTok can soon be up to three minutes long, which it said was a highly requested feature by users. Creators will get access to longer Shorts starting October 15.
Aside from extending the length of Shorts, YouTube introduced a template feature that allows you to match your clips to trending sounds taken from other videos.
It's similar to a TikTok feature that allows you to choose from preset video styles and use your clips for them. Instagram has something similar for Reels where you can use creators' video timings or cuts. It would make it easier to jump on trends but would also mean there can be a lot of content that will look and feel the same. This template option is accessible via the "remix" button on videos.
YouTube Shorts might be getting new features. However, the company acknowledged that some people aren't into these vertical videos. It introduced a "show fewer Shorts" option so you can temporarily see fewer Shorts on your home feed.
