According to a company executive, this sensor is faster and safer with its innovative architecture and wafer-level acoustic layer processing. This new scanner lets you unlock the phone with wet or dirty fingers.
This ultrasonic scanner uses sound waves to capture a detailed 3D of the fingerprint. It emits an ultrasonic pulse, which bounces back from the finger for a high-res depth-based fingerprint image. It's a more secure option than an optical sensor but more expensive. That's why we only see this technology brought to flagships. Goodix supplies this scanner to companies like Samsung and Google, so you may see more of it in its devices.
