Following earlier teasers, Samsung showcased the Galaxy Ring at MWC 2024, revealing its design and additional functionalities. This health and wellness-focused wearable will be available in platinum silver, gold, and ceramic black and is expected to launch later this year.

Samsung initially revealed a render of the Galaxy Ring at its Unpacked event last month, sparking comparisons to competitor Oura Ring. While specific sensor details remain undisclosed, the company confirmed its focus on well-being tracking.

Although press wasn't allowed to photograph the device today, Samsung provided images showing a sizeable, concave ring, similar to the Oura. Its thickness accommodates the internal electronics, but journalists at The Verge noted a surprisingly lightweight feel.

The ring will be available in sizes 5 to 13 (marked S through XL) to cater to different finger sizes. Battery capacity will vary accordingly—ranging from 14.5mAh to 21.5mAh—and exact battery life remains unknown. Although, Oura offers up to seven days on a single charge for its devices.

According to a blog post by Samsung VP of digital health Dr. Hon Pak, the Galaxy Ring will analyze sleep patterns using data from heart rate, movement, and breathing, offering personalized recommendations based on the findings. Additionally, the ring will leverage data from partner Natural Cycles—which it uses for fertility tracking on Galaxy Watch— matching a key feature of the Oura Ring.

Samsung is also introducing a new My Vitality Score. The Galaxy Ring measures alertness to inform users about their optimal states. Personalized feedback will be delivered through Booster Cards featuring science-backed tips derived from sleep and other data collected by the device.

The Galaxy Ring seamlessly integrates with the Samsung Health ecosystem and is compatible with the Galaxy Watch. This allows users to leverage both wearables simultaneously for comprehensive health tracking. Notably, the ring's advantage lies in its comfort during sleep compared to a bulkier watch.

More details, including the specific sensor suite, pricing, and exact launch date, will be revealed in the coming months. While currently limited to Samsung Galaxy phones, the company plans to expand compatibility to other Android devices in the future. iOS compatibility remains undetermined at this stage.
