Chip giant Qualcomm has hinted at the upcoming release of its next top-tier Snapdragon processors through a post on Chinese social media platform Weibo. It's expected to launch next week on March 18.
Speculation suggests the announcement could be for the recently leaked Snapdragon 8s Gen 3. If confirmed, this chip would join the previously released Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 at the forefront of Qualcomm's mobile processors.
The naming convention is confusing, admittedly. While "s" could suggest a performance boost, the Snapdragon 8s Gen 3 is expected to sit below the Snapdragon 8 Gen 3 for Galaxy and the standard Snapdragon 8 Gen 3.
Last month's information points towards a configuration with a Cortex-X4 prime core reaching 3.01 GHz, four Cortex-A720 cores at 2.61GHz for demanding tasks, and three Cortex-A520 cores clocked at 1.84GHz for efficient background operations. The Adreno 735 graphics chip might also be included
Qualcomm's Weibo post, if translated correctly, possibly indicates a focus on artificial intelligence capabilities in their next-generation processors. It won't be surprising given how brands are heavily focusing on AI capabilities.
