Great news for iPhone users! WhatsApp is finally rolling out Passkey support, letting you ditch the login hassle. Now, you can securely log into your account using Face ID, Touch ID, or your device passcode.

This long-awaited feature (announced in October 2023) streamlines the login process, especially after being logged out. Passkeys replace traditional passwords with on-device authentication, making them more secure.

Think of it this way: verifying your Face ID is as secure for WhatsApp as receiving and entering a two-factor authentication code.

How to setup Passkeys:

Setting up Passkeys is simple:

  1. Update WhatsApp to the latest version.
  2. Open WhatsApp and tap Settings (gear icon) in the bottom right corner.
  3. Go to Account.
  4. Look for the "Passkeys" option. If it's not there yet, the rollout might not have reached you.
  5. Tap "Passkeys" and follow the on-screen instructions.

Passkeys have been gaining traction with major services like Google and eBay. They offer faster and more secure logins. However, they can be device-specific. While you can use a Passkey on your iPhone, it might not work on your computer. This might mean remembering a few passwords occasionally, but the convenience outweighs the minor inconvenience.

Overall, Passkeys are a welcome addition to WhatsApp, offering a secure and speedy login experience for iPhone users.
