In a move eagerly awaited by fans, Nintendo announced alongside its financial results that a new generation of the Switch console will be unveiled before April 2025. This aligns with previous rumours of a Q1 2025 launch.
President Shuntaro Furukawa stated, "We will make an announcement about the successor to Nintendo Switch within this fiscal year," acknowledging the nearly nine years since the original Switch's reveal. Notably, there will be no mention of the new console during the upcoming June Nintendo Direct, which will focus on Switch software for the latter half of 2024.
Nintendo's forecast predicts a slowdown in Switch sales, with projections of 13.5 million units compared to the previous year's 15.7 million. Net profit and revenue are also expected to decrease. This follows a decline since 2021's peak, though the recent OLED model saw a slight year-over-year increase.
Despite the sales slowdown, Nintendo remains committed to the current Switch generation. They aim to "put not just one system in every home, but several, or even one for every person."
