Currently stuck in a sidebar, Copilot will soon be a regular Windows app you can resize and move around freely. This means easier access and multitasking. Instead of a disappearing sidebar, a click on the new Copilot icon in the taskbar launches a movable window.
Microsoft explains it this way: "With this change, users of Copilot will get the benefits of a traditional app experience such as resizing, snapping, and moving the window."
If you're getting one of the Copilot+ PCs (recently unveiled at the Build conference), a single click on the dedicated Copilot key on your keyboard will launch the app. And Microsoft 365 subscribers will still enjoy separate "web" and "work" tabs within Copilot, ensuring data security.
Microsoft hasn't revealed an exact release date, but they're rolling it out gradually. You can see the early version in the latest Windows 11 Insider build (Canary channel). But we can expect the full-fledged app in the Windows 11 2024 Update scheduled for later this year (H2 2024).
