Since its 2020 redesign, the iPhone has seen incremental updates rather than groundbreaking changes. This trend is set to continue with the upcoming iPhone 16 lineup.

While last year's Pro model introduced a titanium shell, the core device remained largely unchanged. The Dynamic Island, though hailed as innovative, was more of an interface tweak than a fundamental shift. This year's models will follow suit, offering subtle refinements rather than a dramatic overhaul.

The iPhone 16 series will focus on Apple Intelligence, the company's new AI suite. However, this feature will also be available on the iPhone 15 Pro, limiting its appeal as a unique selling point.

Other anticipated changes that Bloomberg's Mark Gurman reports in his Power On newsletter include:

Action Button expansion: The Action button, previously exclusive to Pro models, will supposedly be standard across the iPhone 16 lineup. Its impact may be softened by iOS 18's enhanced Control Center and Lock Screen customization.
Camera control upgrade: Pro models will feature a new camera control button, mimicking DSLR functionality for improved photo and video capture.
Slight screen enlargement: Pro models will have marginally larger displays. The regular Pro will supposedly move to 6.3 inches from 6.1, while the Pro Max will now approach 6.9 inches, an increase from 6.7.
Colour and chip refresh: Updated colour options and the new A18 chip and 8GB of RAM will be standard across the range. The blue Pros might get replaced and rose gold is expected to make a comeback.

While these enhancements are welcome, they are unlikely to drive significant sales. Apple's cautious sales forecast further supports the notion of a lacklustre iPhone cycle.
