According to Boy Genius Report, Telus will be charging $50 to unlock any handset or device they sell that has a SIM card staring February 15th provided users are,  "active post-paid customers with an account that has been open for a minimum of 90 days." This service is good for iDEN and GSM devices.

The biggest benefit of having an unlocked device is the freedom to insert any working SIM card and use it on that network while maintaining all your contacts, apps and information on your phonew.
