Asus teases upcoming event at CES

Even without giving too much away, the teaser video for Asus’s event at next year’s Consumer Electronics Show. The YouTube video is entitled “Explore the Unknown” and it shows two children taking on some adventures until it focuses on a kid playing in his room as he tries to recreate the solar system. Near the end of the video we see an outline of one or two devices but it was shown rather briefly. The rumour mill is relatively quiet for new Asus devices so we’ll have to wait and see on January 4 what the Taiwanese company plans to release. Asus is hosting a livestream on that date at 11:30 am Pacific and you can watch it from this link.

ASUS ZenFone 3 Deluxe isn’t coming to Canada

If you’ve been eagerly waiting for the ZenFone 3 Deluxe, we regret to inform you that the powerhouse device isn’t coming to this country. ASUS company representatives have confirmed the cancellation of the phone’s arrival. But they didn’t say the reason behind this. Perhaps it could be a lack of confidence that the phone will sell well.

It comes with a CA$699 price tag but it doesn’t seem like an unreasonable amount for a phone that packs in a Snapdragon 820 processor, 6GB of RAM, and a 23-megapixel rear camera. The ZenFone 3 Deluxe was initially set to go on sale this month at a wide range of national retailers. It’s too bad the Taiwanese brand decided to pull the release of the phone.

ASUS VR headset spotted at Computex 2016

The big ASUS announcements at Computex 2016 in Taiwan revolve around the ZenFone and the ZenBook. But spotted on the showroom floor are VR headsets the Taiwanese brand didn’t even mention. It seems to be built to go against the Samsung Gear VR but it has a nicer leather strap reminiscent of the ZenWatch and shiny metal-like body. It’s said to be coming next year but not much is known about it. The VR headset is 5.7 inches wide diagonally and is speculated to fit the newly launched ZenFone 3 devices.

Like the Gear VR, it has a touchpad and buttons on the side. And as Gizmodo points out, it looks like ZTE’s own VR headset, which is being made with Google’s Daydream VR platform. We can’t help but wonder if this VR is being developed for said platform. We have to wait a while to find out more about this mysterious VR headset.
