CD Projekt Red vows to fix 'Cyberpunk 2077' issues on older-gen consoles

Cyberpunk 2077 is less than a week old, but it's facing heavy criticism, particularly its performance on older-generation consoles. Sony and Microsoft are allowing owners to refund their copies. CD Projekt Red (CDPR) also says gamers can return their boxed copies at the stores they originally bought these from. The issues range from graphical problems to glitches that make it impossible for players to complete quests. CDPR had to issue a hotfix to get rid of the worst problems.

The developer issued a new statement, apologizing for "not showing the game on base last-gen consoles" before its release. And it promises to release a series of updates in the coming months to bring the game up to parity with the next-generation and PC versions.

CD Projekt Red, NVIDIA tease 'Cyberpunk 2077' and its ray-tracing features

With Cyberpunk 2077 finally coming out in the next few weeks, game developer CD Projekt Red wants to show off the gaming. The latest behind-the-scenes video shows off gameplay footage featuring DXR ray-tracing and NVIDIA's DLSS tech. According to NVIDIA, the game is "more immersive and detailed" if you have ray-tracing enabled.

The company says that "glorious ray-traced reflections are cast on every possible surface; substantially improved shadows naturally soften and sharpen; [and] shops, streets and buildings are realistically illuminated with diffuse lighting."

'Cyberpunk 2077' PS4 version will be compatible with PS5 at launch

When Cyberpunk 2077 does eventually launch, you don't have to worry about whether it can work on the next-generation PlayStation 5. CD Projekt Red confirmed the PlayStation 4 version of the game will "work on PS5 on launch day." The game developer previously confirmed that the game will support Microsoft's Smart Delivery system, which means the Xbox One version will work on the Xbox Series X from the get-go. CD Projekt Red pushed back the release of this action-adventure role-playing game from September to November 19, saying that it needed to make sure the game works well before launch day.

Those who buy the PS4 or Xbox One versions of Cyberpunk 2077 will get a free upgrade to a version of the game that's optimized for the next-gen consoles, and players can take "full advantage of the next-gen hardware." Unfortunately, CD Projekt Red couldn't confirm whether this upgrade will roll out in the coming year.

Netflix's 'The Witcher' helped boost popularity of 'The Witcher 3' on Steam

With the recent release of Netflix's adaptation of The Witcher, the game based on the original novel experienced some record-breaking highs on Steam. Marcin Momot, global community lead of The Witcher game series developer CD Projekt Red, shared on Twitter that the four-year-old game The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt surpassed 93,000 concurrent players on the platform in December. This number was a 93 percent increase from the number of players who played the game at the same time the month before. In the New Year, the game has peaked at over 100,000 concurrent players, as shared by Wario64 on Twitter.

It's an impressive number, given how old the game is already. We also don't know how many more are playing the game on other platforms, since Steam only takes into account PC players. The Witcher 3 is also available on the PlayStation 4, Xbox One, and the Nintendo Switch. The Witcher web series, on the other hand, is an eight-episode show starring Superman actor Henry Cavill. Both the game and the show are based on The Witcher novels by Andrzej Sapkowski.
