Neil Young restores catalog on music streaming services

After one year or so of swearing off music streaming services due to audio quality issues, fock/rock musician Neil Young finds his music catalog back in the likes of Spotify, Apple Music, and Deezer. His music has been on Tidal due to the streaming service offering a “HiFi” tier in its service for those who want lossless quality tunes.

Young had been concentrating on its Pono brand, which included the PonoPlayer and PonoMusic download service. Both focusing on offering maximum audio quality. However, PonoMusic has been offline since July following the acquisition of its platform provider Omnifone. Perhaps, the drop in income has made Young reconsider his position. If you’re a fan and on these services, this is good news for you.

Deezer sells Stitcher to E.W. Scripps

Less than two years after Deezer bought podcast app Stitcher, the streaming music service is selling it off to media company E.W. Scripps for US$4.5 million. The Stitcher team will be joining Midroll Media, a podcast producer and advertising network. At the moment, Deezer says podcast content will be available on their platform. For how long, we can’t say. According to Scripps, Stitcher has 8.5 million registered users and is installed in 50 models of cars. The company didn’t say though how many active users the service has. Stitcher believes this acquisition will help both advertisers and content partners with “an expanded portfolio of opportunities” to help reach their target audience. We can’t say yet how they’d do that though.

The service brings CarPlay support to its paying subscribers, which in Deezer’s case are its Premium+ and Elite subscribers. Premium+ account removes advertisements and adds some features, while Elite gets support for high definition audio that’s currently only available to Sonos users.

What Deezer brings to CarPlay include the ability to listen to albums, playlists, and tracks; use Flow feature to find new music; listen to Deezer Mixes; and access music in offline mode.

Prince pulls music from streaming sites Spotify and Rdio

Prince has had this love-hate relationship with the Internet and its services. He seems to empathize and agree with Taylor Swift’s criticism of freemium streaming services. So, what does he do? He pulls his music catalogue from the likes of Spotify and Rdio. If you want to hear his music online, right now you can see it on Tidal, SoundCloud, Deezer, and Google Play. There’s no word yet if Google plans to pull out his catalogue. We’re not sure if he’s coming to Apple Music. But for now, you’ll have a limited number of services to gain access to his funk-heavy tunes.
