Robots take center stage at World Future Sports Games 2017

AP Photo/Kamran Jebreili

There will be a World Future Sports Games in our future. It'll be happening in 2017 in Dubai. This tech-focused sports event will feature things like drone races and "robotic swimming, running, wrestling, and car racing." It's basically the Olympics for 'droids. If this becomes a success, the games are expected to happen every two years. The goal with the World Future Sports Games is to improve robotic sports tech. We're not sure if there's a market for that but we are intrigued. Dubai is currently hosting the World Drone Prix.

Dutch police are training eagles to take down drones

Drones are great devices for getting birds eye view video and photography as well as for various types of recreational flying. But when they are used to take unwanted photos of private property or when they are potentially dangerous. The thing is, shooting down drones isn't the safest way to remedy the situation. Dutch Police are training Majestic Eagles to identify and knock down drones. It's an interesting approach although the eagles can get hurt by the drone's propellers which isn't ideal. The tests are still undergoing so it remains to be seen if eagles are the best solution worth considering for drone control.

Amazon takes drone tests to a secret location in Canada

After the FAA set strict limitations for commercial drone use in America, Amazon decided to take its drone testing and research outside the country and into Canada. The company is currently doing delivery drone tests at an undisclosed location in British Columbia. They're making use of the airspace above 200 feet yet below 500 feet so it's well above most buildings yet still below airplanes and helicopters. According to The Guardian who got to visit the facility, the Amazon drones are going to weigh less than 55 pounds and carry five-pound or lighter loads and they will fly at around 50 miles per hour.
