Evernote to focus on main app with decision to drop some apps

Much like Dropbox’s decision to drop some of its apps, Evernote is ending support for some of its apps. Skitch for iOS, Android, Windows, and Windows Touch will be shut down. The only version of this app that will remain will be for the Mac. Evernote for the Pebble smartwatch will also be shut down. Evernote Clearly will also be shuttered. The company will stop updating these services and will be removed from circulation on January 22.

The company plans to keep its focus on their main service. According to Evernote, some of the best features of Skitch and Clearly will be integrated into their main service. Skitch’s identical annotation functionality will be available in both Windows and iOS apps. Article simplification from Clearly will be available in the company’s Web Clipper. And Pebble watch users can find Evernote features with the Powernoter app.

Evernote adds sketching capabilities to iOS app

Evernote is making it easier for users to doodle on their iPhones and iPads with the latest update. Users can now sketch within notes. There will be a new pen icon within a note that will open up a canvas for you where you can draw using either a stylus or your finger. There are even different pen types, tip sizes, and 10 different colours to choose from. After you’re done sketching it’ll be resized to fit into a note. You can come back and edit the sketch anytime by just tap on the sketch.

Users who have the iPad Pro, iPad Air 2, or iPad Mini 4 also get split screen support from Evernote. The app also gets several bug fixes and improvements.

Another gives you a horizontal bar that provides you with customizable set of actions so you can put front and center the features you use the most. And lastly, there’s also the 1 x 1 widget that lets you pick one selectable action. The update also brings with it “miscellaneous bug fixes.” It’s already available for download on the Play Store.
