Google’s Gboard adds support for more languages including Korean and Chinese

Google is expanding the language support of Gboard by adding 20 additional new languages. The keyboard app will add in the coming days both traditional and simplified Chinese as well as Korean. These new additions bring over 300 languages supported by Gboard and while there are thousands of languages spoken around the world, this update is said to cover 74 percent of the world’s population. Google has said they are also dedicated to bringing lesser-used languages into the app. An example is the African language Fulani, which didn’t have a written alphabet until the ‘90s. The company is working with the brothers who developed its character set.

Gboard adds support for 40 more languages and sticker packs

Google’s keyboard app Gboard gets one useful update for those who wanted access to more languages on it. For one it adds support for 40 more languages, including those that don’t have a writing system based on Latin script. In the changelog, Japanese had been specifically singled out, meaning there must be a big demand for it. But the app won’t for users of Google’s Japanese keyboard to switch. Instead, it’s just one of the many options that need to be manually added and configured to use.

As for the other new feature, it’s actually been around for users of Allo. But now the four sticker packs are readily available for all Gboard users, regardless if you have Allo or not. The update is rolling out now so you may see it soon on your device.

Gboard for iOS will now let you share YouTube clips and locations on Google Maps

Google is updating its Gboard keyboard app on iOS to add some pretty nifty features. The app now gets YouTube and Google Maps integration. So aside from being able to do web searches right from the keyboard, you can just now tap on the G icon and look for something. If the YouTube clip shows up or a location or address of a specific place from Maps is pulled up, you can just send it to the person you’re messaging. Aside from that, the app will now also let you draw or doodle with its new Ink feature. All you need to do is tap on the emoji button and tap on the pen icon. The keyboard app now also supports three new languages: Arabic, Hebrew, and Farsi.

Google Gboard can now predict whole phrases and emojis based on your drawings

Google is boosting the machine learning capabilities of its official keyboard app with its latest update. The Gboard doesn’t just predict the next word you’re about to type, this time it’s working to predict full phrases based on your typing behaviour. This feature is going to be particularly useful to help cut down texting time. Aside from that, you can now also draw an emoji and Gboard will predict what it is you’re drawing. And while it might be faster to just swipe through the emojis, this might be a way for Google to study your drawing habits and get information from that. Android users of the Gboard app are getting the new features now, iOS users will have to wait for a bit.
