Google Assistant on Allo can share personal data if you let it

Sometimes a colleague or friend needs a contact number for you and it’ll take you a few swipes and taps on your device to get that info. Hoping to make it easier for you, Google Allo added a new capability to Assistant on its service. You can ask it to look up upcoming calendar events, contacts, or a flight. It’ll then ask for your permission to share the information. When you press “Share Now,” it’ll then be sent in the chat window you’re in. To get access to this feature, you might need Allo version 6.0.

Google Allo introduces ‘Rogue One’ sticker pack

Google Allo has been getting a lot of cool sticker packs lately. There’s been the Stranger Things pack and Fantastic Beasts and Where To Find Them ones. Now, the messaging app gets Rogue One: A Star Wars story animated sticker pack. The newest stickers commemorate the arrival of the eighth live-action film from the Star Wars universe this December 16. And if you want to express how excited you are for the film, what better way to share that with your friends than with spamming them with moving stickers?

Google collaborates with Jeremy Scott for new Live Case designs

Hoping to add a bit more color and flair to Pixel and Nexus phones, Google partnered with Jeremy Scott to create new, funky Live Case designs. Channeling the same playful vibe the designer goes for in fashion, the cases are colorful and cartoonish. The cases are plastered with emojis and cartoon characters we’re sure would attract the younger crowd. There are also companion live wallpapers that will rotate through each emoji every day. These can even be animated with a shake of the phone. Aside from that, Google is offering a sticker pack from Jeremy Scott on its Allo app.

The cases are made for the Pixel, Pixel XL, Nexus 5X, and Nexus 6P with prices starting at US$40 (about CA$55). These can be designed through Google’s case maker, too. There are nine color and emoji case choices you can mix and match. You can even control the zoom level and rotation.

Google Allo will keep your messages on its servers until you delete them

Google is backtracking a bit from what they’ve announced at Google I/O and sharing how they plan to store messages on its new Allo app. If you’re not using Incognito Mode in the app, the messages you send there will be stored “transiently.” What this means is your chat history will remain on your device and Google’s servers until you physically delete them. According to Google, they made the change to improve the smart reply feature of the app. Of course, the messages will remain encrypted. But if you don’t want to have to delete the messages yourself (the one you’re messaging has to delete them, too, to completely remove the data), you can choose to use Incognito Mode within the app.
