Instagram tests out song lyric stickers

Instagram might be adding a new sticker to Stories: one that lets music lyrics play alongside a video. App researcher and tipster Jane Manchun Wong discovered the feature back in April and showed us how it works in a short clip. It shows a video of Rick Ashley’s “Never Gonna Give You Up” with lyrics playing alongside it. The social network has been adding music features to Stories recently. In some markets, you can add background music to your posts and respond to questions with songs, among others.

Instagram will enlist Facebook fact checkers to limit misinformation on its platform

Facebook-owned Instagram wants to limit the spread of misinformation on its platform and one way to remedy that would be to run potentially false posts through Facebook’s fact-checking partners. While Instagram won’t take down these posts, they won’t show up in the Explore tab as well as in the hashtag results page. A spokesperson for the company told Poynter, "Our approach to misinformation is the same as Facebook's—when we find misinfo, rather than remove it, we'll reduce its distribution." On top of this, Instagram is considering adding pop-ups for when people look up misinformation.

Instagram tests out ‘like-less’ feed in Canada

We say “like-less” but technically that isn’t what that means. We’ve reported this earlier, but Instagram has started rolling this test out here in Canada recently. The social network is taking away the ability of your users to see how many likes your posts get. What they’ll see instead is they’ll see one username and then the words “and others.” They won’t be able to see the actual number. Instagram says they’re trying this out because they want “your followers to focus on what you share, not how many likes your posts get.” However, you will be able to see how many likes your posts get. Some users online claim this defeats the purpose or essence of Instagram. But what do you think? Would you rather your followers see your “numbers” or just keep that figure to yourself?

A hidden Instagram feature shows the social network considering hiding the like count on people’s photos

While it’s a feature that’s unreleased, it’s one that would definitely cause a lot of discussion and change how people use Instagram. Code hunter and programmer Jane Wong found an unreleased feature that would publicly hide like counts from followers. The test describes this as letting “your followers to focus on what you share, not how many likes your posts get.” Only those who post will be able to see the number of likes received. According to a spokesperson from Instagram, “We’re not testing this at the moment, but exploring ways to reduce pressure on Instagram is something we’re always thinking about.” How do you feel though if Instagram decided to roll this out? Would that still encourage you to use the app?
