The Apple Beat: The iPad grows up

By Gadjo Cardenas Sevilla

To say Apple is eyeing the enterprise is a huge understatement. They’ve struck deals with the likes of IBM and Cisco to create some serious, secure, and enterprise grade iOS-first solutions that should satisfy CIOs of Fortune 500 companies as well as any SMB outfit looking for a standardized set of tools.

Apple’s iPad Pro is a daring creation. It is a powerful yet portable tablet that may seem oversized to many of us used to 7, 8 and 9-inch tablets but there’s merit to the new size as well as the new functionality.

IPad Pro isn’t the first pro-focused tablet. There’s three (possibly four, by October) generations of Microsoft Surface Pros that have a similar keyboard and stylus combination. The big difference is that the Surface runs PC applications as well as some mobile ones as well.

Xcode data reveals iPhone 6s has 2GB of RAM, iPad Pro has 4GB of RAM

Apple's not one to give details on the amount of RAM that ships with its iOS devices. Xcode 7 GM asset catalogs have revealed that the new iPhone 6s has 2GB of RAM, double that of the iPhone 6 and the iPad Pro, Apple's powerful new tablet aimed at enterprise, has 4GB or RAM. This is double the 2GB of RAM that's included in the iPad Air 2, which was last year's flagship.

More RAM is necessary for smoother multitasking and faster access to apps. iOS 9 will be bringing various split-screen and multitasking features to Apple's mobile OS which will only work on the iPad Air 2 and the new iPad Pro because these features require more RAM capacity to work smoothly.

Text and photos by Gadjo Cardenas Sevilla

San Francisco: In terms of coverage, scale, and number and variety of announcements, yesterday's two-hour "Hey Siri" Apple Special Event in San Francisco was unprecedented.

Cramming in enough product and feature announcements for two events, we saw new iPhone 6s smartphones, a larger iPad Pro, some sexy new Apple Watch editions and bands, plus a whole new Apple TV powered by apps and Siri voice control.

To top it all, we got to see Apple CEO Tim Cook's favourite band OneRepublic take to the stage for a surprise set of their well-loved hits. All-in-all, one of the most memorable Apple Events yet.
