Nokia's Here Maps app now available for iOS

Need advanced maps and direction on iOS, well it's Nokia to the rescue. Their new Here  free maps app is now available for iOS and brings offline caching and walking directions. 

"Maps are hard to get right - but location is revolutionizing how we use technology to engage with the real world," said Nokia's Executive Vice President of Location & Commerce Michael Halbherr, who is responsible for Here. Nokia lays the smackdown on competing smartphone map services 

Nokia Canada has just posted a graphic on Facebook comparing its mapping service against its competition. Citing the features coming to the still unreleased, unpriced and unavailable Lumia 920 versus the Android-powered Samsung Galaxy SIII (out since June) and the Apple iPhone 5 (out today). Nokia has had a head start in the mapping department since it purchased Navteq in 2007 for $8.1 billion.

Nokia to cut 10,000 jobs by 2013 in latest restructuring move

Nokia announced that it would cut 10,000 jobs from its workforce in order to cut costs and try to turn the company around. Included in the reductions is Nokia's R&D facility located in Burnaby, British Columbia.
