Doritos partners with Marvel for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2 promotion, puts a cassette tape player in its packaging

Building on Peter Quill’s love for music, there will be special edition Doritos nacho cheese bags coming out. The bag of chips will have a cassette player (or at least a music player that looks like one) and will play songs from the Awesome Mix Vol. 2, which is the soundtrack for Guardians of the Galaxy Vol. 2. It contains songs from the likes of Fleetwood Mac, Sam Cooke, David Hasselhoff, and George Harrison.

Why do such a thing? A Frito-Lay executive told Billboard, “Can you imagine a better way to listen to this soundtrack than with a bag of Doritos? We couldn’t either.” While we’re not so sure about that, it might be a gimmick some of you can get behind. No word yet on how much it’ll cost but it’ll show up on Doritos’ Amazon page on April 28th.

Here’s our first look at ‘Thor: Ragnarok’

It’s over the top and crazy. As what we’ve gotten accustomed to when it comes to Marvel films. But with this set outside of Earth, Thor: Ragnarok is looking more fantastical. The first trailer for the latest Thor film shows us life after Hela, the Goddess of Death, destroys Mjolnir and invades Asgard. The God of Thunder is suddenly left without a home, a new look, and what looks like a showdown with Hulk. It’s all mighty exciting and we can’t wait for November when the film comes out.

Marvel ‘Inhumans’ to get a TV series

While Marvel Inhumans doesn’t look like it’s getting its movie back, there is a TV show in the works. Marvel Television, ABC, and IMAX are partnering for The Inhumans TV show. Of course, the show will be based on the comic book characters made by Stan Lee and Jack Kirby. It’ll tell the tale of Inhuman king Black Bolt and members of his royal family. It hasn’t been announced if the Inhuman characters introduced in Marvel and ABC’s Agents of SHIELD will cross over in the series but we won’t be surprised if they do.

Under this new partnership, IMAX will exclusively premiere the first two episodes in theaters worldwide for two weeks in September 2017 before it debuts on ABC in the fall. The first two episodes will be filmed entirely with IMAX digital cameras. There is no word yet who will write and produce the new Inhumans series but we should get word at a later date. The Inhumans mark the first time a live-action TV series will debut in IMAX theaters.

Marvel’s ‘Jessica Jones’ to only have women directors for upcoming season

Hoping to right the gender imbalance in the industry and telling the tale of a female superhero better, Jessica Jones will be getting an all-female director lineup next season. The Marvel show’s executive producer Melissa Rosenberg confirmed the news at Transforming Hollywood 7: Diversifying Entertainment conference at the University of Southern California’s Annenberg School for Communication and Journalism. According to Variety, the production first focused on trying to get as many female directors to work on the show. But it wasn’t until someone else in the team “floated the idea” of booking only women directors. There aren’t that much details yet about the second season of the Netflix show but it’s expected to go into production next year with a 2018 release.
