Microsoft's Bing Chat AI starts rolling out to all users

Image: Microsoft

After the Bing Chat AI sidebar showed up, it looks like Microsoft is ready to offer its ChatGPT-powered Bing Chat AI to anyone who wants to use it. It's still listed as "join the waiting list" on the signup page, but when you sign up, it looks like you get instant access. I got access to the feature a few weeks back.

Microsoft hasn't confirmed this change, but it is holding an event today on "Reinventing productivity with AI." The focus might be more on its tools for the Microsoft 365 suite, but there might be new changes to Bing. Microsoft confirmed recently that the new Bing runs on the GPT-4 engine for the last few weeks, well before OpenAI unveiled it.

Slack has a ChatGPT app, too

Image: Salesforce

Slack is the latest app to integrate ChatGPT into its tech. OpenAI built a ChatGPT app using Slack's development tools. And it's now available in beta. The app can draft messages and summarize conversations and threads. If you have the app installed, you can click on a thread's menu button and select the "summarize thread" or "draft reply" option. The app can then create a summary or response that only you can see. You can then choose to share what's done.

According to Slack, you can use AI to deliver answers and insights on any project or topic chatbot-style. It suggests you can use the feature to look up best practices or research a potential customer. Slack noted that OpenAI won't use the data the ChatGPT app can access to train its language models.

Snapchat launches a ChatGPT-powered My AI chatbot

Image: Snap

Snapchat gets an in-app chatbot powered by the latest version of OpenAI's ChatGPT. The My AI chatbot will be pinned to the app's chat tab above the conversations with friends. It's coming first to Snapchat Plus subscribers, with the eventual goal of bringing it to all of Snapchat's 750 million monthly users. It isn't designed to be a search engine. Instead, Snap CEO Evan Spiegel envisions it as another service you can chat with daily aside from your friends and family.

As The Verge noted, My AI seems like the fast mobile-friendly version of ChatGPT but inside Snapchat. But it is a more restricted version, with Snap training the chatbot to adhere to its trust and safety guidelines. It will not give responses that include swearing, sexually explicit content, violence, or opinions on hot-button topics like politics. It's also taken out the option to write academic essays. Snap plans to keep tuning My AI as more people use it.

Spotify has an AI-driven DJ for a built-for-you radio station

Spotify joins many other companies using artificial intelligence for its service. The app beta tests its new DJ feature in Canada and the US for Premium users. With an AI-generated voice, the app can create a customized radio station built around your musical taste. It isn't too far off what it's doing now with algorithmically-generated playlists. But now, you'll hear a voice intro and commentary we've typically only gotten from the radio experience. If you aren't feeling the recommendations it offers, there's the DJ button you can switch to change up the tracks.
