Sony takes to Twitter to announce the Canadian launch of the Xperia Z Ultra

Although it will by no means be considered a 'flagship' device, Sony has taken to their Xperia Canada Twitter account to announce that the 6.4-inch screened "phablet"known as the Xperia Z Ultra will indeed launch in Canada next month.

Although no details on carrier, pricing or exact dates are known, one can assume - based on the image above alone - that it will launch in a variety of colors with Rogers (probably; we all know their affinity for all phones white) snatching up the white iteration.

Of course, the Xperia Z Ultra will have some stiff competion in the over-sized phone market (one that Samsung currently dominates), it's good to see competition rising.

Nokia Lumia 1520 leak shows Windows Phone in a 6-inch 1080p form factor

There's a future for Nokia's Lumia line after the Microsoft purchase as evidenced by the upcoming Lumia 1020 and now the large 6-inch Lumia 1520 which was outed by @Evleaks on Twitter. Pushing the pixels and the boundaries of Windows Phone with a large 1080p HD screen and some additional tweaks. Rumour has it that the Lumia 1520 is coming to AT&T later this year, which means there's always a chance we might see it in Canada soon after that.

Sony out-Notes Samsung with 6.4-inch Xperia Z Ultra smartphone

Big smartphones have proven to be quite popular but few companies have dared challenge Samsung's Galaxy Note, until now. Meet Sony's Xperia Z Ultra, a surprisingly thin yet expansive 6.4-inch Triluminos display.Under the very hood is a 2.2 GHz quad core processor, 2 GB of RAM, 16 GB of storage (expandable of course). Just like the Xperia Z tablet, it is IP58 certified (dust and water proof), so it is dunkable in water  up to 1 meter for 30 minutes. Is there a market for this large smartphone which isn't much smaller than many 7-inch tablets? Probably, but we wont know for sure until the Xperia Z Ultra comes to market. Note that from the advertisement, the Xperia Z Ultra seems to be marketed towards ladies which seems spot on since the Galaxy Note seems to particularly appeal to females.

LG's Optimus G Pro's 5.5" smartphone pics revealed

LG's Optimus G Pro will be a bigger, badder and rounder device. Looking oddly like a Samsung Galaxy Note II, the new flagship device from LG will sport a larger curved screen that will have a 1080p HD resolution. The pro will have a quad core processor although it is not yet known if this will be a different one than what is on the LG Optimus G.
