360-degree render of the Google Pixel XL show up online

A few days ahead of the October 4 Google event, new images and renders of the rumoured Google Pixel XL show up online. @OnLeaks on Twitter has new information on the rumoured device. It supposedly measures 154.72 x 75.74 x 7.3mm (on the bottom) and 8.5mm (at the top). The Pixel XL will reportedly have a 5.5-inch display, making it a bit larger than the Pixel with its rumoured 5-inch screen. The rear camera and fingerprint sensor seem to be covered by a glass plate. It also seems to have a metal frame with slopping edges, a USB Type-C port, and stereo speaker at the bottom. You can, of course, also see the power button and volume keys.

BlackBerry’s rumoured upcoming Android device passes through FCC

BlackBerry DTEK50

A recent FCC filing is adding credence to rumours that a new Android-powered BlackBerry device is heading our way. Called the DTEK60, it follows up the recent launch of the DTEK50. The filing shows the possible specs of the device, which show this’ll definitely be a better device than its predecessor. Some of the specs include a Qualcomm Snapdragon 820 processor, 4GB of RAM, fingerprint sensor, 21-megapixel rear shooter with an 8-megapixel front-facing camera, and a 5.5-inch QHD display. There is no confirmation yet from BlackBerry if they intend to release this anytime soon, but the device got leaked on BlackBerry’s site earlier this week.

Google rumoured to be pricing Amazon Echo competitor at US$50 less

There’s a new rumour floating around that Google plans to launch its own Amazon Echo-like speaker during its October 4 event. The big thing about Google Home though is it’ll be US$50 cheaper than the Echo at $129 (around CA$170) when it comes out. It’ll will have personalized base covers, which were first seen at Google I/O back in May will be seen in the final device. This voice-activated speaker is designed to be used across rooms to ask Google questions, stream music, check your schedule, and the like.

Google to hold event on October 4, possibly to unveil new phones

Google has a big product launch coming up on October 4 and a teaser video that announces the event seems to suggest upcoming devices. As you see above, the clip shows a search bar morphing into a silhouette of a smartphone. What’s absent is the usual Nexus name but this seems to back the many reports from the past that Google plans to drop the Nexus name and exchange that with the G logo you also see in this video. Earlier this year, Google CEO Sundar Pichai said they wanted to be “more opinionated about the design of the phones” and they would “add more features on top of Android on Nexus phones.”

These upcoming Google devices have been called Pixel X and Pixel XL, two new smartphones that HTC will make with 5-inch and 5.5-inch models, respectively. Not much is known yet about these but we should hear more in the coming months.
