Review: Papago's GoSafe 520 Dash Cam

By Gadjo Cardenas Sevilla

Dashboard cameras have become a popular accessory and security feature for drivers who want to have video proof in the event of an accident or help ward off would-be car thieves or vandals.

The variety of dash cams in the market range from cheap, low-resolution models that might simply be videocameras designed to be mounted on a windshield. While these serve to capture video, they lack clarity and have limited range.

I tested Papago's GoSafe 520 dash cam, which is the flagship model boasting a 2K resolution and 21:9 ultra-wide video. The widest range of view at 146° covers no just what is ahead but even extends to what is on the side.

GM recalling 51,640 SUVs due to defective fuel gauges

GM is recealling 51,640 SUVs from their Buick Enclavee, Chevrolet Traverse and GMC Acadia lines from the 2014 model year. The recalled models were built between March 26 and Aug. 15 of 2013. The key defect is the engine control module software that leads the fuel gauge to read inaccurately. This could result on sudden stalling when the vehicles run out of fuel.

GM doesn’t know of any crashes or injuries related to the problem and  dealers will reprogram the software for free, starting immediately. The company will also notify owners by mail. This follows an earlier recall in March for faulty airbag wiring that  illuminates the airbag warning light while leading to failure of deployment.

Motoring: Tesla Model S gets 5-star safety rating

Just in case you needed another reason to justify buying a sweet Tesla Model S sedan, it just received a 5-star safety rating from the US Department of Transportation. Gorgeous, fast, electric and superbly safe, the Tesla Model S doesn't need space for a traditional engine, so it houses additional crumple zones that can absorb impact. The heavy battery pack also lowers the centre of gravity for a smaller chance of rollovers. This is good news not just for Tesla but for all electric cars in general.
