The Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 edge get the Note7’s always-on display feature

Samsung has carried part of the Galaxy Note7 to its two remaining flagships. The Galaxy S7 and S7 edge both get the always-on display feature of the Note. It was done perhaps to make the experience a bit more comfortable for the former Note7 owners. It also helps keep the legacy of the Note device, which might not be a brand Samsung would (or should) retain. Users will be able to customize what’s being displayed on the screen—whether it be a photo, a digital or analogue clock, or notifications. Of course, you can’t expect the S Pen-reliant features to show up. Some users have reported, though, that notifications from Samsung’s email app aren’t showing up.

Review: Samsung Galaxy S7

Text and photos by Gadjo Cardenas Sevilla

The Samsung Galaxy S7 is an accomplished flagship smartphone and one that is undeniably a Samsung creation from top to bottom.

Samsung’s latest flagship is a confluence of cutting edge technology, innovative features and a response to user requests. This is undeniably the company’s most ambitious smartphone yet.

The Galaxy S7 is also one of the most expensive Android handsets to come to market, and one of the most premium phones available. For Samsung, it is the right product coming out at just the right time, and a huge play for them to reclaim the throne as leading smartphone manufacturer as well as put forward the features that separate them from the herd.

Samsung Galaxy S7 and S7 edge only come with Quick Charge 2.0 support

In case you were looking for Qualcomm’s latest charging tech included in the new Samsung Galaxy devices, unfortunately, you won’t be getting it this time around. Unlike the LG G5 that has Quick Charge 3.0 support, the Galaxy S7 and S7 edge are still sporting Quick Charge 2.0. This is because Samsung makes use of two different processors for their devices and these don’t have the same charging capabilities. While the Snapdragon 820 processor supports the next-gen charging tech, Samsung’s own Exynos 8 processor doesn’t. For consistency, Samsung opted to keep the same Quick Charge 2.0 speed. But this isn’t particularly a slouch either. You can still get a good chunk of your battery back in 15 minutes if you use the right accessory.

You can buy an unlocked Galaxy S7 in Canada

Samsung isn't one to rock the boat when it comes to its relationships with the largest carriers in the country. But for the new flagships they're making a bit of an exception and are offering unlocked versions of its new Galaxy S7 and S7 edge. But to get your hands on these, you'll need to buy them at the company's Experience Stores located at Toronto's Sherway Gardens, Burnaby's Metrotown Mall, Richmond Centre Mall, or West Edmonton Mall. When you buy from these stores you'll get two unlock codes (in case one of them doesn't work), and a Gear VR as well as 128GB microSD card (just to remind you that expansion is once againa available on the S7).
