YouTube's HDR feature appearing on Samsung Galaxy S8 and Note8 devices

Users of the latest Samsung Galaxy S8 and Note 8 devices are starting to see an HDR feature on YouTube's playback and resolution settings. The compatible devices will be able to make use of videos that were shot with High Dynamic Range. This brings greater depth and saturation to video on compatible devices.

Sony Xperia XZ devices, which support the feature, are also starting to see the option.

Samsung Galaxy S8 & S8+ tipped to get Android Oreo soon

A new report surfaced online claiming Samsung has begun working on Android Oreo for both the Galaxy S8 and S8+. The firmware version could be G950FXXU1BQI1 on the Galaxy S8, and G955FXXU1BQI1 on the Galaxy S8+. There isn’t word on when these updates will roll out though but hopefully it’ll come in the next few months. Other manufacturers like HTC and Huawei have said they’re going to work on bringing Android 8.0 to select devices before the year ends.

Samsung’s Bixby voice assistant comes to the US

While there’s still no sign of Bixby anywhere here yet, Samsung just launched its voice assistant in the US, a few months after it was introduced alongside the debut of the Galaxy S8 and S8+. It was released in South Korea in May and it looks like it’s finally ready to take on the English-speaking market in the US. Hopefully it makes its way here soon, too. With Samsung adamantly not letting users remap the Bixby buttons on the S8 devices, it would be better if the physical Bixby button actually served a purpose.

Samsung begins testing Bixby Voice in the US

An early access program available to Samsung Galaxy S8 and S8+ users in the US are giving them a chance to try out Bixby Voice ahead of its official launch. Bixby Voice, which is Samsung’s answer to Siri and Google Assistant, is supposedly being rolled out late this month. With that coming up, Samsung has launched the aforementioned program, which lets some users beta test the assistant before everyone else. Those who can access the testing (there will be a “limited” number of users) will need to use their Samsung accounts to register and have the Galaxy S8 or S8+ since the feature isn’t available on other devices yet.
