More details surrounding Samsung's smart watch emerge

Hoping to gain first-mover advantage in the wearable computing/smart watch segment, Samsung is aiming to launch the often leaked Samsung Galaxy Gear at IFA next week.

The smart watch will reportedly be offered in 6GB and 8GB variants, it will sport a 2.5-inch OLED  touch-display with a 250x250 pixel resolution and will have a 10-hour battery life.

Other neat features are imbedded strap speakers, a 720p front-facing camera all of which will be powered by a 1.5GHz dual-core processor and 1GB of RAM. While we've seen various mockups of the smart watch, Twitter tipster @Evleaks has posted screens of the Galaxy Gear app. The screen shows a way to connect watch to smartphone via NFC as well as various settings and controls. Legit? Looks like we only have to wait a few days to find out.

Study claims smart watch shipment will reach 36 million by 2018

Concept by The Guardian

Expect more app-enabled smart watches in your future. According to Juniper Research’s report called “Next Generation Smart Watches: Market Prospects 2013-2018”, shipment of these wearable gadgets will be up to 36 million per annum by the year 2018, compared to over 1 million sent out this year.

What is going to drive this dramatic increase in shipment in the next five years will be the new multi-function segment because the next-gen smart watches are expected to be equipped with functionalities such as tracking sports and fitness activities as well as for payment or ticket purposes. And this will be pushed further by the involvement of Apple and Samsung in the segment.
