Netflix brings HDR support to the Samsung Galaxy Note8 and Sony Xperia XZ1

It’s a very exclusive club. There were only three devices that supported Netflix HDR, namely the LG G6, LG V30, and Sony Xperia XZ Premium. Now the streaming service adds two more: the newly launched Samsung Galaxy Note8 and Sony Xperia XZ1. This feature promises to bring life-like images to your Netflix viewing. For mobile, it first became available on the LG G6 in May. This particular device is also the only one with Dolby Vision standard.

There isn’t anything you need to enable to get the feature to work. All you have to do is have a Netflix plan, one of these devices, and the latest version of the app and your phone’s latest firmware.

New leak shows off the entire Sony Xperia XZ1

Yesterday we got to see what the rear panel on Sony’s upcoming flagship might look like. But a new leak shows off the alleged design of the Xperia XZ1 in all its glory. Aside from showing off the possible design of the phone, the leak also “confirms” or reveals some of the specs we’re expecting the Xperia XZ1 to have: Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor, 19-megapixel rear camera with Motion Eye feature, 13-megapixel front camera, 5.2-inch HDR display, IP65/68, and have Sony’s 3D feature, too. Our wait isn’t that long to find out if any of these hold up as Sony is set to debut new devices at IFA in Berlin at the start of September.

Sony Xperia XZ1 leak suggests extra sensors for the camera

The Sony Xperia XZ1 is being touted as the next flagship from the Japanese company and it's being expected to debut alongside the XZ1 Compact and X1 at IFA in Berlin at the start of September. Now, we get new information, or at least more leaks about the upcoming device. While it'll look similar in shape to Xperia phones of yore, it's said to be smaller than the XZ Premium with a 5.2-inch display, Qualcomm Snapdragon 835 processor, Android O out of the box, metal construction, and water resistance.

There is something new supposedly coming, though. As GSMArena points out, there seems to be an extra-large hole at the back, which is bigger than the one we see on the XZ Premium. This suggests there could be more focus-related features on top of the Laser AF and RGBC IR sensor on the XZ Premium. What it's for, we can't say yet. It's being rumoured, though, that the XZ1 will carry a 19-megapixel rear sensor with 4K video capabilities and a 12-megapixel front-facing camera also with 4K video recording. There's a possibility Sony will carry over its 960fps slow-motion video mode to the XZ1. The upcoming devices are expected to go on sale as soon as September 10th and the price target for the XZ1 is around US$860 (around CA$1,100).
