Disney+ to air 'The Mandalorian' documentary starting on 'Star Wars' Day

The Child a.k.a. Baby Yoda is arguably the most popular character out of 'The Mandalorian' (Still courtesy of Lucasfilm/Disney)

May 4 is extra special to Star Wars fans. And now there's another reason for fans to get extra excited this coming May 4. An eight-episode documentary on the Star Wars series The Mandalorian will start streaming then. Disney Gallery: The Mandalorian comes from the show's producer Jon Favreau, and it gives us a look at behind-the-scenes footage, cast and crew interviews, and roundtable discussions with Favreau.

According to the press release, the docuseries will also shed light on the show's filmmaking process, its "groundbreaking technology," and the "artistry behind the show's practical models, effects, and creatures," among other things. Lucasfilm didn't say if we're getting a look at The Child's (a.k.a. Baby Yoda) lineage, but we're holding out hope that the series will shed some light on the beloved character's background. New episodes of the show will be available every Friday on Disney+.

Rosario Dawson will reportedly play Ahsoka Tano in 'The Mandalorian'

For the first time, we might see Ahsoka Tano in a live-action Star Wars production. Slash Film reported that Rosario Dawson had been cast to play Anakin Skywalker's Jedi padawan apprentice in the second season of the popular Disney+ show The Mandalorian. Ahsoka has so far appeared on animated Star Wars series The Clone Wars and Rebels.

Dave Filoni, who is the co-creator of the animated version of Ahsoka, is a writer, producer, director on The Mandalorian. He will also be returning as a director for season 2. Lucasfilm or Dawson hasn't confirmed the casting yet, but we'll keep you posted on any updates.

'Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker' gets an early digital release in the US, too

Aside from Frozen 2 hitting Disney+ earlier than expected, another Disney property is showing up online earlier as well. Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker has been spotted in online digital stores in the US, including Vudu, iTunes, and Google Play. It isn't on Amazon yet as of this writing. The film isn't available for rent, though. You will need to purchase it, and you can do so for up to 4K quality. The Rise of Skywalker was expected to hit digital stores on March 17, but it looks like they wanted to capitalize on people spending their weekends in. We aren't sure if it's available here in Canada, too. But the wait shouldn't be long either.

Upcoming 'Star Wars' movie rumoured to focus on Sith planet Exegol

Lucasfilm

With the future of Star Wars movies up in the air, we scramble for any new bits of information about what comes next. The latest rumour we've heard talks about the movie reportedly taking place on the Sith planet Exegol. And the film will reportedly have Sleight filmmaker J.D. Dillard at the helm alongside Luke Cage and Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D. writer Matt Owens. This movie, however, doesn't have any connection with the announced Star Wars trilogy from Rian Johnson or the movie pitched by Marvel head Kevin Feige.

We don't know if and when this project might happen, especially with Lucasfilm previously saying they will concentrate on TV shows. But if this movie does push through, it could answer some questions left by the last Star Wars film, The Rise of Skywalker.
