Gartner study finds Android surpassing iOS as most popular tablet platform

Gartner previously predicted that Apple would maintain supremacy over the tablet market until 2015. Their new study, however, shows Android has taken over iOS in 2013 with 62 percent of the market share against 36 percent of iOS. The overall tablet sales are the main reason for the sudden climb as well as the increase of cheaper, small-screen Android slates on the market. Microsoft saw modest growth in 2013 with Windows 8 tablets accounting for just 2.1 percent of the market.

76 per cent of Canadian youth admit they hide online activities from parents

McAfee Canada released the findings from the company’s 2014 Digital Deception in Canada study, which examines the online habits and interests of preteens, teens and young adults. It finds that when it comes to spending time on the Internet, Canadian youth between the ages of 10 and 23 are viewing content and engaging in behaviour that they choose to hide from their parents in a variety of ways.

Study claims smart watch shipment will reach 36 million by 2018

Expect more app-enabled smart watches in your future. According to Juniper Research’s report called “Next Generation Smart Watches: Market Prospects 2013-2018”, shipment of these wearable gadgets will be up to 36 million per annum by the year 2018, compared to over 1 million sent out this year. 

What is going to drive this dramatic increase in shipment in the next five years will be the new multi-function segment because the next-gen smart watches are expected to be equipped with functionalities such as tracking sports and fitness activities as well as for payment or ticket purposes. And this will be pushed further by the involvement of Apple and Samsung in the segment.
