Google to hold event on October 4, possibly to unveil new phones

Google has a big product launch coming up on October 4 and a teaser video that announces the event seems to suggest upcoming devices. As you see above, the clip shows a search bar morphing into a silhouette of a smartphone. What’s absent is the usual Nexus name but this seems to back the many reports from the past that Google plans to drop the Nexus name and exchange that with the G logo you also see in this video. Earlier this year, Google CEO Sundar Pichai said they wanted to be “more opinionated about the design of the phones” and they would “add more features on top of Android on Nexus phones.”

These upcoming Google devices have been called Pixel X and Pixel XL, two new smartphones that HTC will make with 5-inch and 5.5-inch models, respectively. Not much is known yet about these but we should hear more in the coming months.

Google's Sundar Pichai weighs in on FBI encryption issue, sides with Apple's Tim Cook

Google's CEO Sundar Pichai took to Twitter to raise his concerns over the FBI's attempt to gain access to an iPhone backdoor which could expose user information. Pichai seems to agree with Apple CEO Tim Cook who today released a strongly worded public letter in response to the Federal Bureau of Investigation's desire to be able to access the contents of people's iPhones in investigations.

"The government is asking Apple to hack our own users and undermine decades of security advancements that protect our customers — including tens of millions of American citizens," Cook declared in his open letter.

Google's Sundar Pichai expresses support for Muslims, slams intolerant discourse

It's so disheartening to see the intolerant discourse playing out in the news these days — statements that our country would be a better place without the voices, ideas and the contributions of certain groups of people, based solely on where they come from, or their religion.

Google CEO Sundar Pichai has written an open letter in support of Muslims while slamming the 'intolerable discourse,'indirectly referring to  blustery Republican presidential candidate Donald Trump. Pichai brings a unique perspective since he himself is an immigrant who came from Madras, India 22 years ago and settled to study and work in the US.

Titled 'Let's not fear defeat our values,' the letter preaches tolerance and the advantages of different voices in running successful companies as well as nation building. Pichai is the latest recognized tech CEO who has weighed in on serious issues of equality. Facebook's Mark Zuckerberg also gave his support to Muslims and Apple's Tim Cook famously expressed his support for minorities and he even penned an essay on bloomberg advocating for equality.
