Telegram won't push through with its monetization plans due to Apple's App Store rules

Telegram had plans to help content creators monetize their posts. But the company wanted to do it through Telegram's payment system instead of Apple's, meaning it'll bypass its 30% fee for developers. Apple wasn't happy with this plan, especially since it goes after its rules. So, Telegram has to cancel for now but says it'll look for ways users can monetize content on its app outside of Apple's ecosystem.

What to expect from Telegram's Premium subscription service

Telegram's Premium subscription service is launching, offering users extra features they can enjoy on the messaging app. Some of its biggest draws include faster downloads and double the maximum file upload size to 4GB (instead of 2GB). The company hasn't mentioned pricing yet on the blog post detailing the features, but sites like The Verge reported US$4.99 (~CA$6.50) and TechCrunch says between $5 (~CA$6.50) and $6 (~CA$8).

Premium subscribers also get double the limits imposed on non-paying users. You can join up to 1,000 channels instead of 500. You can create 20 chat folders with 200 chats each, save up to 10 stickers, pin up to 10 chats, and add four accounts to Telegram instead of three. You can also have longer bios with a link.

Telegram reportedly tests 'Premium' subscription, spotted in beta builds

As with any other company, Telegram is looking for ways to bring in more revenue. And one of its newer ventures is to try out a Premium subscription option. At least, that is what's been spotted in the Test Flight and Server builds of the app. It brings an expanded set of stickers and emoji reactions to the messaging app. But from what it looks like, these new features will only be visible to other Telegram Premium users. So, if you want to see the emoji sent to you, then you'll have to sign up. There is no word yet how much it'll cost or whether it will actually be launched. But we'll keep an eye out for it.

Telegram's version 8.0 update brings new features, but drops Wear OS app

Telegram's latest update brings some new features, but it looks like it also got rid of a feature. The version 8.0 update doesn't include the Wear OS app. 9to5Google noted that the app has vanished from the Play Store on Wear OS. When you search for it, it no longer appears. But if you have the app already, it should stay put.

The update brings features like unlocking the limits on the size of a live stream's audience. You can now hide captions or the sender's name with messaging forwarding. Telegram will also now show trending stickers, and it improved sticker selection on the Android app. If you send emojis as a single message, these will be animated.
