Dieselgate scandal deepens, now involves Audi and Porsche models

There seems to be no end to the Volkswagen dieselgate scandal which involved millions of vehicles across various countries that have been designed to cheat emissions tests using Defeat Device software in the cars' computers. While the initial scandal revelaled that various diesel VW models dating back to 2009 were outfitted with the defeat device, we are now finding out that this now involves newer Audi and Porsche models.

VW recalling more than 670,000 vehicles in North America due to faulty airbags

VW AG has issued a recall for over 670,000 vehicles in North America including 250,000 in Canada due to potentially faulty airbags. The recall includes the 2010-14 CC, 2011-13 EOS, 2011-14 Golf and GTI, 2010-14 Passat and Tiguan plus the 2010-13 Jetta models.

VW says the issue is that debris may contaminate the air bag clock spring — a spiral cable that keeps the air bag powered while the steering wheel is being turned. It may tear the cable and result in a loss of power.

The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration opened an investigation in March into the 2012 Passat and CC after receiving reports of nine air bag failures from clock springs in VW vehicles.

Motoring: VW releases Golf GTI Cabriolet

This is the most powerful VW Cabriolet ever. Revealed at the Geneva Auto Show, the VW Golf GTI Cabriolet accelerates  from 0 to 100 km/h within 7.3 seconds, its top speed with the roof up is 237 km/h (DSG: 235 km/h). Pricing and availability has not yet been announced but seeing this in North America is unlikely seeing that the EOS and the Beetle Cabriolet are hot sellers.

Based on the year-old, third-generation Golf cabriolet, the GTI  version receives the same turbocharged 2.0-liter, four-cylinder engine as the GTI with 211 hp.

Motoring: VW recalls 30000 2011-2012 Jettas for extra long tailights

Das ist Hot! Volkswagen will recall 30,294 of its 2011-2012 model year Jetta sedans for possible tailpipe finishers that extend beyond the vehicle's rear bumper and may prove dangerous.

According to VW, certain Jettas with stainless steel exhaust tips sold at the point-of-purchase and installed at port during importation may extend beyond the original length of the factory-installed exhaust pipes, a situation that could result in burns if bumped or touched while hot.
