Google warns about delays of YouTube Music transfers due to 'high demand'

Google's transfer option from Play Music to YouTube Music went live recently. And a lot of people seem to be taking advantage of the feature, enough of them that the company had to warn users that the transfers are "delayed" because of "high demand." The transfer tool is available online and in the YouTube Music app. And at this point, transfers can take up to several days to complete.

The company didn't explain why the slowdown is happening. Despite this happening, more users are getting access to the feature. But we won't be surprised if even that is delayed, too.

Google Play Music library transfer to YouTube Music goes live for some users

As Google works to transition its users from Google Play Music to YouTube Music, one crucial aspect is importing libraries. A recent story from Droid Life reports that the ability to transfer your content is now available, at least for some users. You can check if it's available on your account through this link: music.youtube.com/transfer. You'll just need to click on a single button at the bottom of the screen to start the process.

The capability should be available on the YouTube Music app, but it doesn't seem to be available there for some users. They tried using the web portal (which we linked to above) and got it to work. Google appears to be rolling this feature in waves, so if you don't have it yet, keep checking in.

YouTube Music now lets users pre-save albums

Embed from Getty Images

YouTube Music is closing the feature disparity a bit more with a new feature that will allow you to view and pre-save unreleased albums. It's a function you can use on other services like Spotify and Apple Music. But it hasn't been available on YouTube Music before this. The app will show unreleased albums and their tracklisting, and, of course, only the tracks that were already released as singles are playable until the album launches. You will get the option to pre-save albums to your library and download the available songs for offline listening. When the album is released, the rest of the tracks will be automatically added.

Engadget points out that not all upcoming albums seem to be available yet. But with news about its availability, perhaps more albums you're looking forward to will start showing up on the service.

YouTube Music has a new Explore tab to help with music discovery

YouTube Music is getting another new feature on mobile to help you discover new songs. The streaming music app will replace the Hotlist tab with a new Explore tab. The section features two subsections: New Releases and Moods & Genres. If you use other streaming music apps like Spotify, then you've seen something similar. The New Releases section considers your listening history when it shares you new tracks to listen to, while the Moods & Genres section offers premade playlists you might want to dive into. The company has started rolling out the feature, so expect it to make its way to your Android or iOS device soon.
