YouTube 6.0 introduces live chat area on Android app

Chatting on YouTube live streams isn’t particularly new. But it was previously a desktop-exclusive feature. It would seem the feature would be making its way to Android though. In the teardown of YouTube 6.0 APK, one of Android Police’s readers found a new “Live Chat” option at the bottom of a live streaming video. You just need to tap the up arrow or slide the bar to the top of the window to check out the live chat. The 6.0.13 should be rolling out to users now, just wait a bit for it to head your way.

YouTube gets Material Design makeover

It was bound to happen. YouTube is joining the fray of other Google apps to get the Material Design treatment. Not much has changed when it comes to functionality though. What we get is a new red design on top for the homepages main colour but it also pulls colours from individual channels so when you visit one it pulls colors from the page. The update should be coming to your device soon. Just wait for a bit.

Queue YouTube videos on the Web for Chromecast

YouTube recently updated its service to introduce a new queuing feature for sharing clips to your Chromecast. The feature is set to be available in the coming week and it will let you use a single tab on your browser to cast videos and then continue browsing to line up more clips. You can also cast playlists if you want. YouTube has also unified the Add to Playlist and Share buttons on the desktop to match what it looks like on mobile and to make it simpler to create playlists and share clips.

Google Play Store screenshots show possible introduction of offline mode for YouTube

Offline mode for Google has been discussed in the past few months and it would seem we are getting a bit closer to that becoming a reality. Or at least we hope so. Droid Life reports that new screenshots for YouTube on the Google Play Store show a tab that has Offline on it. This obviously alludes to the Offline Mode that would let users cache videos for several days on their gadgets so they can watch videos even when they aren’t online. Google hasn’t really made an official announcement yet but we really hope they introduce this soon.
