Text donation for Haiti earthquake relief
The Mobile Giving Foundation brings the power and reach of mobile phones to Registered Charities as a new fundraising and donor interaction mechanism. The non-profit organization empowers mobile users with an expedient charitable donation option and has already helped raise over $100,000 for post-earthquake Haiti just this morning.
By texting a keyword to a designated short code via a mobile phone, a micro-donation of $5 or $10 can be made to aid the millions of people affected by the disaster. The Foundation asserts that 100 per cent of each donation goes to the recipient charity, and the donation appears as a charge on the users carrier bill (standard text rates may apply).
Currently there are several organizations that are responding to this urgent need and accepting mobile donations, including the following:
-
Text the word "Yele" to 501501 to donate $5
On behalf of the Yele Foundation, the leading contributor to rebuilding Haiti founded by Wyclef Jean
