Motoring: Shelby American launches new enthusiast website
Shelby American, a wholly owned subsidiary of Carroll Shelby International Inc. launched a new dynamic website and the latest Shelby Annual publication. The new site officially went live on October 22 and is designed to thrill Shelby fans and petrolheads.
“Both of these initiatives were created to feed the growing demand for more Shelby-related news and information,” said John Luft, president of Shelby American. “We invite the public to test drive our new website, which is a multi-media experience designed to both inform and entertain. It’s a place for people who love Shelbys to connect with the company and other enthusiasts, much like the 2010 Shelby Annual.
ShelbyAmerican.com was revitalized with a new look, integrated media player, newsroom, gallery and vehicle descriptions. It contains a dynamic event calendar, free downloads, social media applications, bios, historical data and links to key sites, such as the Carroll Shelby Foundation, Shelby dealers, Shelby Performance Parts and Team Shelby. The company did a “soft launch” of the new site, which generated an unexpected jump in hits over the first few hours.
Proving that print is far from dead, The Shelby Annual is a 154-page publication devoted to Shelby’s impressive history. Stories range from the return of the Shelby GT350 to an article about the relationship between Carroll Shelby and Edsel Ford, chronicles of the Shelby Cobra and information about the latest products from Shelby Performance Parts, along with the launch of the company’s new Shelby American Motorsports Speed Shop. The publication is available for purchase on newsstands; Team Shelby club members also receive it as part of their membership.
Editorial and layout was the responsibility of Donald Farr, editor of Mustang Monthly. He created a “dream team” of journalists who have penned pieces for outlets, such as Motor Trend, Hot Rod, Octane, the Robb Report, 5.0, Mustang Monthly and Mustang Milestones.
“It was an honor working with the team at Shelby American,” stated Farr. “In addition to the historical perspectives, we also covered history being made today with the new Shelby GT350, along with the continuing production of the Shelby GT500 Super Snakes and Cobras.”
Some of the articles in the Annual include:
• Comments from Carroll Shelby – Carroll Shelby
• Snakes Alive! – Matt Stone
• Two for the Road – AJ Baime
• A Shop for Speed – Winston Goodfellow
• Serpentine Route (A 427 Cobra Journey) – Dale Amy
• Dual Personalities – Donald Farr
• Shelby American Goes NASCAR – Jerry Heasley
• The 1965 GT350 – Rick Kopec
• Shelby American Early Photography – The Freidman Photos – Austin C. Craig
• Mission Ready - the SR71 – Dale Amy
• Continuing a Legend – Austin Spencer
• Super Truck: the Super Snake F150 – Jerry Heasley
The four color Annual is printed with a heavy stock cover and top quality paper, which makes it a hybrid of a book and a magazine. Only a limited number are produced, making it an instant collector’s item. It is available only through Team Shelby, at the Shelby American museum gift shop or on newsstands in stores, such as Barnes & Noble, Wal-Mart and Borders Book Stores. Anyone interested in joining Team Shelby and securing their copy of the Shelby Annual can call (702) 942-7325 or log on to www.teamshelby.com.
“Source Interlink’s journalists had unprecedented access to our team, facilities and archives,” added Luft. “They once again did a great job telling the Shelby story. Like our new website, it’s a wonderful bridge between the past and the present and peek into the future for anyone who loves high performance cars.”
Source Interlink Companies, Inc., is the leading publisher of 65 enthusiast magazines, whose successful brands have been extended to consumer shows, events, online, television, mobile devices and radio.
