Review: Freehands Powerstretch 5 Finger tech gloves
Text and photos by Gadjo Cardenas Sevilla
The biggest gripe many have with multi-touch enabled capacitive touchscreens in smartphones and tablets is that they're useless when one is wearing gloves. Using these devices in the cold isn't fun specially when one has to take off their gloves to work their phone or tablet. Freehands Powerstretch gloves changes all this and does so in style.
Anyone who is getting a new tablet or smartphone this Christmas should be getting a pair of these $26.00 Powerstretch gloves. They are lightweight gloves that can be worn alone or under larger gloves. Build and styling is top notch and we found the fit to be just right. What makes these gloves special are the silver plated polyamide tips on all fingers to conduct electrostatic energy to your tablet or smartphone.
We even found that these are ideal for taking photos outdoors since some of the newer cameras are touchscreen devices. The Powerstretch pair we tested is clearly designed for touch typing as all the finger ends have the polamyde tips and we were able to type without a problem on the various tablets we test in house.
For smartphones and their smaller keyboards, typing might be a bit more challenging since it is hard to be accurate with the polamyde tips. The gloves are good for swiping, pressing and scrolling though.
Freehands Powestretch 5 addresses a real issue with touchscreens and offers an elegant, workable and affordable solution that isn't all that more expensive than a pair of quality gloves.
Freehands Powerstretch 5 are just one of many products from Freehands which also have thicker material for colder weather like wool and ragg wool. Other products have 50% wool shell and thinsulate interlining making the glove a thick and durable. Ribbed cuff keeps out the cold. Palm dots ensure a secure grip and magnets keep the finger caps out of the way when folded back. These have cutouts for the forefinger and the thumb only.
Freehands Powerstretch 5 finger gloves are ideal for anyone who has had to fumble working touchscreen devices. They are suitably warm but also effective and functional unisex gloves.
