Vonage offers free mobile apps for global talking and texting service

Vonage has released new smartphone apps that offer free global text and voice calls between users 

Available for iPhone and Android phones and offered free from the iTunes App Store and the Android Marketplace, Vonage Mobile lets you call and text for free to other users who have downloaded the App in over 90 countries utilizing Wi-Fi/3G and 4G networks worldwide. Unlike Skype, the App does not need to be running in the background for it to ring, thus conserving battery life.

Unlike other VoIP apps that require to be open or running before calls can be made or received, Vonage makes sure that calls and texts are sent directly from your existing address book while letting you see who you can call or text for free. Avoiding the hassle of usernames or additional signup steps, your existing mobile number is your caller ID when contacting friends, family or coworkers.

For users making international calls to people who have not downloaded the app, the rates are amongst the industry’s lowest – 30 percent cheaper than Skype and 70-80 percent cheaper than mobile carriers.

•             Calls are free to Vonage Home customers

•             If applicable, billing is charged directly to an existing iTunes or Android Marketplace account

•             Paid caller’s experience is as easy as direct dialing – click a button to select country you wish to call, pay with iTunes/Android Marketplace and immediately dial.  No prearranging for international calls through the carrier, credit check from the carrier, commitment to an international calling plan or waiting period necessary.
