Samsung overtakes Nokia as top phone maker with record $5.2 Billion Profits

Samsung's on a roll. They've just overtaken longtime phone leader Nokia by shipping 92 million cellfones worldwide in Q1 2012 while Nokia sold 83 million units. Samsung also posted profits of US $5.2 billion dollars for the period.

Samsung makes various feature phones but is popular for its Galaxy range of Android smartphones which is composed of various models in a range of screen sizes and features.

Samsung's feature phone and smartphone sales now make up 40% of their total profits, which is remarkable for a company that makes so many products.

 

Samsung's momentum can be credited to a wide range of models ranging from entry level feature phones to some of the most advanced smartphones in the market including a number of flagship Android powered phones. Famous for making devices in various screen sizes, Samsung has pushed the envelope with 4.7 inch and even a 5.3 inch devices.

Samsung is gearing up to launch a new high end Android phone expected to be the Galaxy S III which will include A 4.7″ HD display featuring 1280×720 resolution, a 1.4GHz Exynos dual-core processor, a 2MP front-facing camera, a 12MP rear camera, 1GB of RAM, and Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich.
